Margi's Bio - Margi's Tattoo Gallery - Margi's Piercing Gallery

People ask how did you become a tattoo artist….. It’s not such a long story – Cathy Hendrix, a woman I was renting a room from noticed I was drawing, asked me how long I had been drawing for, looked thru my portfolio and asked me if I would like to learn how to tattoo as she was half owner is a local tattoo shop. I replied, "No, that’s not the type of environment I want to work in, drinking, smoking and guys trying to pinch you on the butt…".

A couple of weeks later she invited Ken Williams, working at the Tattoo shop, over for dinner we talked a little bit, nice guy, soft spoken, quite. Then one day she asked me if I wanted to go into the shop. I was kind of apprehensive and didn’t know what to expect. We went into, a small, clean place and there was Kenny putting a pin-up girl on this guys arm, it was BEAUTIFUL! I’ll I could think was WOW I didn’t know you could do that on skin.

Shortly after that I started going in and drawing and just kind of hanging out. Then one day Kenny had an orange for me just to give it a try… my hand hurt all the next day. Eventually I graduated from fruits and vegetable to real skin and well here I am 14 years later with my own studio.

Approximately 9 years ago the studio I was working in was getting a lot of calls for body piercing. Later I attended a Fakir class for body piercing, as there was no Piercing Artist’s the area. It was fun and had a whole different type of energy associated with it.

Thanks to all of you for letting me at beautifying America and beyond.

Some of my moments in the sun include:
Winning best of show and having my clients featured in tattoo magazine; winning several tattoo contest at Burt’s Santa Rosa Annual Event; winning other tattoo contest in which other artists think I am just an "enthusiast". Having the late Grant Huntington photograph one of my clients and having her picture displayed prominently in his studio. Receiving an original Paul Rogers tattoo machine. Being asked to come and help teach at a Fakir workshop. Working with women that have had breast cancer and aiding in their recovery. Being knowledgeable in the arts of tattooing and body piercing to be able to teach other people the craft. And the biggest moment of all was when I opened my own studio and knowing after a couple of months I could make it.
